Purple Coneflower is one of those perennials that seems equally at home in a cottage border, pollinator planting, or cutting garden. Sturdy plants reach about 2 to 3 feet high and open striking 3-inch rose-purple flowers around prominent, textured centers that remain interesting even in dried arrangements.

Stratify seed in moist, sterile medium in the refrigerator before starting indoors, or sow outdoors after frost. Give plants full to partial sun and look for their blooms in summer. The flowers are also traditionally gathered for tea.
